David would like to congratulate Doner & Gyros Aylesbury, who won the Best Newcomer category at the seventh annual British Kebab Awards, held on 18 March at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, central London.
More than 1,000 people attended the ceremony, including the Conservative candidate for the London Mayoralty Shaun Bailey, Joanne McCartney AM, Leonie Cooper AM, and Amjad Bashir MEP. The awards ceremony seeks to promote the unsung small business heroes of the restaurant and takeaway sectors.
Thousands of people voted for more than 150 restaurants and takeaways from across the UK that made up the shortlisted entries for 16 categories, including Best Fine Dining Restaurant, Kebab Van of the Year, and Best Kebab houses in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales respectively.
The British Kebab Awards is the only event to recognize the contribution made by the kebab industry to the national economy – worth £2.8 billion a year, supporting 200,000 jobs.
There are over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK today, selling around 2,500 tonnes of lamb and chicken doner per week.
